10 Things Jr. Preschoolers Will Learn In Our Program

Our Jr. Preschool Program is for children who are 2 years old.   This program starts each child’s educational journey by creating the learning foundation they will build on in their future.

From September to June, here are the 10 things Jr Preschoolers Will Learn In Our Program

  1. Mom comes back.   Usually the first couple weeks (upto a month) is hard for the new student, if they haven’t had daycare or separation experience.   Separating from mom (or their primary caregiver) can be difficult, but we keep our program short so separation isn’t a long time.

  2. We teach and reinforce colour recognition.   Most children will know two or more colours by the age of two, but throughout the year we will begin to learn all 11 basic colours

  3. We teach and reinforce shape recognition.   Most 2 year olds will call a circle a ball, that is perfectly normal.   We will teach the children the 10 basic shapes throughout the year.

  4. We teach and reinforce opposites like big and little, and near and far, and front and back to name a few.

  5. We teach and reinforce their first name initial.   What’s a better way to begin teaching letters than making it personalized for each child.  Children will learn to recognize their first name initial because it’s a letter that ‘belongs to them’.

  6. Fine Motor Development.   When children are using playdough, stringing beads, moving manipulatives, or playing in our sensory bins, it develops, and strengthens their small muscle movements.

  7. Gross Motor Development.   Children at this age need lots of movement, they don’t sit still for a second!   We have a scheduled gym time, outside time and do movement through music at circle time, to assist the development and strengthening of gross motor muscles.

  8. We teach social behaviours such as sharing and helping; kindness and taking turns.   These behaviours are hard for twos to learn, but our program assists each child in learning socially appropriate behaviours through play time and other activities.

  9. Children will learn and practise Cleanliness.   This is a big milestone for most twos, who usually pick up, carry around and drop toys every few minutes.   Follow a trail of toys and you will find a toddler at the end of it!   We begin teaching and reinforcing putting toys away during clean up.

  10. Artistic Outlets.   Children need to learn about art by being introduced to different kinds of media.   Painting, stickers, stamping, glueing, … we try many different forms of art & crafts.
