If I had to recommend a book out of our Parent Lending Library, I'm not sure I could. All our books have great value.
I could say several stand out as most helpful or have great info. Some are well written, or humorous.
I've used some ideas, from some of our books, in Wee Beginnings Nursery School.
This month I would encourage the reading of these three books.
- Everyday Opportunities for extraordinary parenting - Bobbi Conner
- I Love you Rituals - Dr. Becky A. Bailey
- Teaching Children Values - Linda and Richard Eyre
Values (virtues) are important lessons for parents to instill in their children. They teach respect, trust, honesty, integrity, confidence, friendliness, and the list goes on. What virtues are most important in your family, may determine what you teach your children.
Parents no longer have to wonder how to teach certain virtues, and wonder if they have 'done it right'. One of these books suggests parents take one month to teach each virtue (they have 12 listed in that particular book). They have great ideas AND life experiences. A couple of these books also touch base on behaviour and discipline, however they have great sections on teaching virtues.
Each of these books discuss how to teach different virtues to children, using games, discussion, and other types of activities. These books have sections for Preschool, pre teens and teens. So no matter the ages of your children, these values can be taught with age appropriateness.
